Day 0 (part 2) travels vs travails

Planes trains and automobiles, and trams walking and waiting.

We left on time from Sydney to Dubai on Emirates codeshare with Qantas.
Pack into a full plane like sardines. No hiccups and plenty of reasonable food washed down with vinegary red wine.
Four hours in Dubai went quickly and we were off again bound for Lyon.
The wine improved a little.

Lyon airport bus depot was huge, no staff and no helpful signage. Each person we asked, suggested something different to get to town. After waiting for a bus that didn't come, we caught an expensive taxi.

We had one day in Lyon to be tourists, buy Sim cards and get some cash for the village lunches

An hour in Orange Mobile led to success, numbers activated in two hours. Nice stroll through old city, furnicular railway to cathedral. Lovely views and tree canopy walk back to town. Nice lunch😃 from surly waitress.😡

Phones had started then stopped. No credit. Recharge hadn't worked. Back at store another hour, no resolution. Money back but no phones. 🥺
Another store 5 minutes all done and working😀
Lovely wine on the river then long stroll back to hotel, tired but happy.
Message - tomorrow's train cancelled due to a strike (Frances retirement age dispute).
Boots back on and off to station. Helpful man arranges train from other side of town (short tram ride away) similar time tomorrow 🤩

Arrive at train station, train cancelled.
Next 4 trains cancelled. Person on tracks, police action, possible death.
After ignoring incorrect advice to return to original station we departed after 4hrs. Pleasant 1 hr train followed by quick dash to a 2 hr bus and we did indeed arrive on time in Le Puy where we would commence our walk on the morrow.
