Aumont-Aubrac to Nasbinal 27.5kms (124.1kms) 506m up

We started early as we knew it would be a long day. Ready for the 7am breakfast we then walked into town to meet up with the route and buy pastries for the journey. The guide book said there was nowhere before 19kms to buy food so we also made a couple of baguettes at breakfast.
Today was a day of long flowing valleys filled with peat bog pasture and very contented dairy cows, many with calves.
Our hotel is in the middle of an ancient town. After struggling with our luggage up 3 flights of stairs we were greeted with this view from our window.

Cashel and Glendalough

We start the day in Cashel after a long drive from Dingle. The Rock of Cashel was the highlight and a grand old hotel made the small town very comfortable. We then headed towards Dublin on our first M (motorway) Road before braving tiny roads to Glendalough. This is the site (now uninhabited) where Claire's ancestors we think Great Great Great Grandfather mined lead. It was also the site of an sixth century monastery founded by St Kevin. The site stretched up the valley for 4 kilometers, starting with the monastic site and graveyard, a lower then an upper lake (photographed) then the mine site ruin. Interestingly a second mine was called Van Diemen's land. On the shoe of the lower lake was our first wild animals (2) in Ireland. We then drove on to return our car at Dublin airport and join a tour group for a few days in Northern Ireland.

Day 0 - Leaving a 16 acre property for 7 weeks - not easy!

 We leave in 3 days! The bags arent packed. Bye for now..busy busy. We leave in 2 days! We have harvested and given away twelve pumpkins, seven buckets of lemons. The chooks have fresh bedding. An acre of autumn leaves have been cleared. Why do we plant European trees??? We leave tomorrow! Our Border Collie Harry has gone to his cousins (thanks Ruth and Brian) Our house sitters have helped out with the chooks (thanks Laura, Nathan and the boys) Whilst I have been playing farmer and supporting various football teams and tennis players, Clare has packed everything you can imagine into our backpacks and our 13kg bag allowance. Digital books, maps and movies 🍿 really help stay light. We are at the airport, leaving in two hours. We will be flying to Leon in France, stay 3 days as tourists, then walking for 21 days. We will do about 25kms per day and altitude changes of about 500m per day. We have pre-booked accommodation, mostly in 2 star hotels and our bag (13kg max) is moved for us e...
